What an amazing night! The girls attended a "Peace, Love and Rock 'n Roll" dance on Friday, October 23rd. They definitely were channeling their inner hippiness as they grooved to the music. Even the Moms were out there groovin'!

Ice Cream Social and Pumpkin Patch fun, October 25th 2009

We had so much fun at the Ice cream Social. Thank you Miss Karen, you are the best!!! It was so great to get to know some girls from the other troop, to enjoy talking about the things we are going to be doing and learning in the upcoming months. And we saved the best until last; we got to dig into some yummy ice cream and to have some fun learning to sing new songs!!

Afterwards we all headed to the pumpkin patch, where we had lots of fun. We posed for some very cute photos, checked out the pumpkins and got to hang out with our girl scout friends.

Thanks to everyone who participated, it was so much fun!

If you would like to decorate your pumpkins, send me (Rachel) a photo to Rachlewis@me.com and I will upload it to the blog so we can check them all out! More photos to come soon....

What a great meeting we had this week! The girls are definitely learning the routine of running their meetings and having fun! We started out making cards for two kids that lost their mom last week. I am so proud of the generosity of our girls - they truly know the giving spirit.

Each week, the girls have a job to do during the meeting. This ranges from taking attendance, giving reminders of our community service projects, upcoming events, leading the group in our promise and songs, and reporting on the money. The girls are given a new job each week and are learning to check the kapers chart first thing to see what they get to do for the meeting.

Our main activity for the meeting was decorating aprons. We will use these aprons on a field trip later in the year. Look for us getting a tour of Whole Foods or taking a cooking class. Who knows, we might have the next Julia Child on our hands!

Sydney was responsible for our blog this week. She wanted to tell everyone that we made cards and decorated aprons. It was fun!

Meeting Reminder

I just wanted to remind everyone of the meeting we have tomorrow, October 21st. We will be working on aprons for our November outing. We have a couple of other items planned, so we will be very busy. Remember to wear your Daisy tunic!

We also have the fall dance on Friday night. Peace, Love and Rock 'n Roll is the theme. Come dressed up in your best 70s attire! Remember - shoes are not allowed in the gym, so wear appropriate socks and don't spend a lot of time on those "perfect" shoes.

Sunday, October 25th, is our Ice Cream Social. We are hosting this party at my house at 4:30. We plan on being done around 5:30 so we can all head to the pumpkin patch. Wear your Daisy shirts and tunics to this activity.

During November, we will be collecting food for the Mandarin Food Bank. We will also be collecting coats and other clothing. Please feel free to bring any items during November.

Daisy Meeting - Wednesday, October 7th

We had a great meeting today. We finished our fabulous Daisy Shirts, completed invitations for the icecream social and also turned in lots of special treats for our soldier.......I'm sure he will be very happy to receive our care package!!

At the end of our meeting, we tried some ANZAC biscuits, a traditional Australian cookie that originates from WW1; moms and wives from Australia would send these treats all the way from Australia to their beloved soldiers.

Some comments from the girls:

"We had fun making cards for our Soldier. We finished our shirts and it was funny when the pom-poms fell off!! We ate cookies from Australia; they call them cookies. We signed up for the fall dance." ....... Sydney

"We made our shirts with lots of pom-poms.".........Madison Sawyer.

Upcoming Events

Don't forget our next meeting is this Wednesday at the South Mandarin Library at 2:30. The girls will be finishing their troop t-shirts. We are hosting an ice cream social for the new 1st grade Daisy troop that is being formed at Loretto. What a great and fun way to work on kind and considerate, friendly and helpful, and, be a sister to every girl scout!

We will be making a card for our adopted soldier and putting together a care package. If you would like to bring in an item for the care package, all donations are accepted. What should you bring? Snacks - crackers, granola bars, hard candy, cookies, nuts - are always good. (He likes Crunch 'n Munch!) Decks of cards or other card games, footballs, frisbees, Silly string, crossword puzzles, Sudoku puzzles, and other silly items are always good suggestions. The Dollar Store is a great place to pick up a few items.

Make sure you sign up for the events that are coming up soon - Daisy Day on the Funny Farm is November 14th from 9 am to 12 pm. The fee is $6 and will be a barrel of fun!

Also, the fall dance this year is on October 23rd from 6 pm to 8 pm. This fee is also $6 and there is no pre-registration. So, pay at the door. The theme is "Peace, Love and Rock 'n Roll" - dress up like a 60s or 70s gal! We have a list for you to sign if you are interested in attending.

See you all Wednesday!
